Best New Artist
James Bay
Sam Hunt
Tori Kelly
Courtney Barnett
Meghan Trainor
Who Will Win: Meghan Trainor
Who Should Win: Courtney Barnett
The last two names on this list are way ahead. Meghan Trainor has been dropping Pop hit after Pop hit for the last 2 years or so, while Courtney Barnett obtained the sympathy of thousands of “more underground” (not that underground, though) listeners by her real-ness. Oh and she also makes insane Rock music. Now, traditionally the artist who grew more significantly gets the Grammy; and Meghan Trainor has done just that by getting her name multiple times up on the Billboard chart. But aren’t we all tired of that? Of course, she’s a good vocalist, a good artist and gives a nice, rather retrospective touch to Sugar Pop. But this category, as its name suggests, is about the best new artist; and we can’t see anyone better than a badass, incredibly creative lyrical genius.
Song Of The Year
Little Big Town – “Girl Crush”
Wiz Khalifa ft. Charlie Puth – “See You Again”
Ed Sheeran – “Thinking Out Loud”
Kendrick Lamar – “Alright”
Taylor Swift – “Blank Space”
Who Will Win: Taylor Swift – “Blank Space”
Who Should Win: Kendrick Lamar – “Alright”
Once again, the two giants go head to head. Perhaps this will be a tight race between the most “popular” and the most meaningful. But, again, to us, “Alright” was one of the best songs of 2015, and is, by far, the closest to perfect on that shortlist. Then again, “Song Of The Year” is quite vague, and therefore anyone in this category can surprise us with a win (wink, wink, Ed Sheeran).
Record Of The Year
D’Angelo and the Vanguard – “Really Love”
Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars – “Uptown Funk”
Ed Sheeran – “Thinking Out Loud”
Taylor Swift – “Blank Space”
The Weeknd – “Can’t Feel My Face”
Who Will Win: Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars – “Uptown Funk”
Who Should Win: Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars – “Uptown Funk”
It’s been nominated in quite a few categories, and it’s not as if it wasn’t a big track. In fact, “Uptown Funk” is huge. The work of one of today’s best producers with an amazing vocalist, a lot of bass and the most catchy melody of the year, “Uptown Funk” is our choice, and will be the judges’, even though it’s up against greats.
Album Of The Year
Taylor Swift – 1989
The Weeknd – Beauty Behind the Madness
Alabama Shakes – Sound & Color
Kendrick Lamar – To Pimp a Butterfly
Chris Stapleton – Traveller
Who Will Win: Kendrick Lamar – To Pimp a Butterfly
Who Should Win: Kendrick Lamar – To Pimp a Butterfly
Certainly the most anticipated category, and what a category. Putting once again Taylor Swift up against her one-time collaborator Kendrick Lamar, one of the biggest Canadian pop star, a great Rock band and a Country singer who gave us an incredible album, this shortlist is anything but predictable (if you thought it was, think again). What will decide this contest? Who knows, all we know is that To Pimp a Butterfly was so perfect, the Grammys can’t possibly choose another winner. Then again, Chris Stapleton might pull a Beck, and that would be amazing too.
