5 Upcoming Films You Don’t Want to Miss
Because it’s not all Star Wars and Pitch Perfect 2
1. Mr. Holmes
OK, there’ve been plenty of remakes and adaptations for Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s legendary detective already. This one however, is more of a sequel, taking place at the end of Sherlock Holme’s life. Far from the action-ruled series that came out these past years, Mr. Holmes explores a much more psychological and emotional side of the story “à la” Agatha Christie. Sir Ian McKellen is perfect for the role, and we can’t wait to see him solve the unsolvable.

2. Standing Tall (La Tête Haute)
Opening film at the Cannes Festival this year, “La Tête Haute” is quite promising. Like a french version of canadien Xavier Dolan’s Mommy, it tells the story of a difficult child as he enters his teenage years. Starring the famous Catherine Deneuve as a judge for troubled youths and introducing Rod Paradot as a young deliquent, it seems the film has what it takes to both shock and touch.
Release Date : May 13, 2015
3. Suffragette
In the midst of the revitalization of the feminist movement, Suffragette reminds us from where it all started. In this 20th century piece, Carey Mulligan plays Maud, a pioneer in the British suffrage movement, a group of women fighting for their rights against a close-minded and merciless government. The killer cast is completed by Meryl Streep, Helena Bonham Carter, Ben Whishaw and Brendan Gleeson, and we sure think the combination of such great actors and the rendering of an important historical pivot will be successful.
Release Date : October 23, 2015
4. Macbeth
The first images of Justin Kurzel’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth are hair-raising. The smoky and monochrome atmosphere fathers pictures that are like Romantic war tableaux. And we couldn’t have picked a better cast for the Macbeth couple ; Michael Fastbender and Marion Cotillard look magnificent and dangerous as Shakespeare’s greatest anti-heros. A “teaser” trailer could not have been better named when it comes to this mouth-watering minute and a half of terrifying yet dazzling depiction of one of Shakespeare’s greatest tales.
Release Date : October 2nd, 2015
5. Carol
This is perhaps the one we believe is best in line for multiples Oscar nominations. Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett and Cannes’ 2015 Best Actress winner Rooney Mara are said to offer magnetic and heart-rending performances. Nominated for La Palme d’Or in Cannes, it didn’t win but received a standing ovation from the crowd, and critics call it a “universal acclaim”. Based on a Patricia Highsmith novel, the romance between 20 years old Therese and Carol, an older married woman is set in 1950’s New York and adresses the still topical issue that is the social acceptance of homosexuality. Overall, we believe Carol has the best ingredients to become one of the best films of the year : keep an eye out for this one!
