Week #23: PJ Harvey – Stories From the City, Stories From the Sea
This week’s featured album, PJ Harvey’s fifth opus, is one of those records which cement women’s spot in the world of Alternative Rock.
Stories From the City, Stories From the Sea, released in October of 2001, features Radiohead Thome Yorke on several songs, including on vocals for “This Mess We’re in”.
PJ Harvey’s effort got a unanimous positive reception upon its release: to fans and critics alike, it was the best album she had released until then. The record sold over a million copies worldwide, and earned Harvey the 2001 Mercury Prize, as well as the 431st spot on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list.
