Week #12: John Coltrane – Blue Train

undeniably one of the most influential Jazz album of all time, Blue Train was recorded and released in 1957.

Coltrane’s second opus, this incredibly eclectic and variegated album was recorded with the help of some of his Miles Davis bandmates.

A quite avant-gardist album, this record features the first use of the famous “Coltrane Changes”, which consist in playing alternate chords over common jazz melodies and riffs, creating a most innovating sound.
This would be one of the reasons for which this milestone has stood the test of time, and is still appreciated by Jazz fans all over the world.
