Week #25: Slowdive – Souvlaki

This week, our featured album is one of the most essential records of the shoegaze genre.

Recorded in 1992 and released the following year, Slowdive’s Souvlaki is widely regarded as one of the band’s greatest works and often considered as a decade-defining opus.

The album was co-produced by Slowdive’s band members, as well as ambient music icon, Brian Eno, who also happens to have taken over the synthesizers on a few songs.

Critically acclaimed, Souvlaki has, since its release, also been a fan favourite and a reference album for shoegaze amateurs, as well as anyone who’s looking for calm, relaxing vocals over magnificently chaotic instrumentals.
