Week #9: A Tribe Called Quest – Midnight Marauders

The 90s were a most eclectic decade in terms of music genre. With Grunge bringing back the Punk vibes of the 1970s, “Sugar Pop” leading young people into their first teenage years, and Hip Hop/Rap music drawing attention to serious issues and presenting an alternative to the mainstream lifestyles this generation led, “90s kids” had a huge variety to choose from.

But with the new millennium here, only the best records of the 90s still stand. Among them, A Tribe Called Quest’s Midnight Marauders.

Released in 1993, the album was the group’s third, but it had something new to it. According to many, this opus treated more urban issues, telling the listener about everyday events, maintaining however the racial and sexual debates open, fitting perfectly with the typical old school Hip Hop themes.
