Week #22: Jeff Buckley – Grace

“Hallelujah!” is the word we feel like saying after the end of this eventful semester, don’t you agree? We certainly thought Jeff Buckley’s Grace could not be more appropriate in this peaceful June.

Surprisingly, Buckley’s one and only complete studio album did not start as big as it is considered today. After years of singing covers of songs in Manhattan venues, he finally rounded us a few musicians to record his own melodies and a few covers. Grace did receive a generally positive critic feedback when it came out, but the sales did not match the acclaim. It took 8 eight years for the album to finally reach the gold status in the U.S.

Now rated 303rd in Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time, Grace keeps getting late recognition. Buckley was praised for the originality of his renditions of famous songs as well the honesty of his interpretations and we wish we could’ve heard more from him.
