Week #16: The Clash – London Calling
It only took this band three albums to become of one of the greatest Punk acts of all time.
London Calling, The Clash’s third opus, is now ranked among the best Rock albums ever. Released in 1979 in Europe and 1980 in North America, this record tackles social issues through its typical Punk themes.
From racial conflict to unemployment, Joe Strummer covered pretty much anything a politician could talk about in his/her election platform.
London Calling was instantly critically acclaimed upon its release, and earned The Clash a great profit thanks to sales. From Q Magazine to NME, all critics gave London Calling the top rating, and Rolling Stone even ranked it eighth on their “500 greatest albums of all time” list.
