Week #19: B.B. King – Singin’ the Blues

On May 14, 2015, a tireless legend passed, leaving behind a timeless legacy that will not likely be forgotten. This week, Undersound celebrates the great B.B. King with his debut album, Singin’ the Blues.

The 1956 record contained five charting singles in America and instantly propelled King in a hectic career he never tired from. Known for his indefatigable energy, it is said that this same year, he performed in about 342 shows. He kept an impressive high performance rate all through his career. Named 6th best guitarist of all time in 2011 by Rolling Stone, he substantiated this title until his very last years.

Singing’ the Blues is the first of many, many albums by one of Blues’ more influential musicians. Popular tunes such as “You Upset Me Baby”, “Bad Luck” and “Every Day I Have the Blues” showed for the first time King’s characteristic soulful voice and prodigious guitar skills that still mesmerize us today.
