Week #13: Eric Clapton – Slowhand
Today, Slowhand himself turns 70.
To celebrate the genius’ massive impact on younger generations of musicians, we give you his fifth, and probably one of his most acclaimed solo works.
Slowhand was released on November 25, 1977. The title is based on the nickname manager and producer Giorgio Gomelsky gave Clapton.
Featuring timeless hits such as “Wonderful Tonight” and Clapton’s version of the classic “Cocaine”, this album has greatly contributed in sustaining Clapton’s popularity throughout the 1970s and 1980s, once the band era was over for him.
This record is considered today as one of the most significant by any solo artist ever, and has ranked 325th on Rolling Stone‘s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
