Week #1: Cream – Disraeli Gears
To kick off our “Album of the Week” series is a timeless album by one of the most successful supergroup in the History of Music.
Disraeli Gears was released on November 10th 1967 by British trio Cream. The band, composed of the great Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker and the late Jack Bruce, have managed to create a timeless masterpiece which still spins on hundreds of thousands of turntables to this day.
The album gets its strange title from a bizarre malapropism which occurred during one of the band’s tours: Clapton was discussing racing bikes with Ginger Baker when a roadie said “It’s got them Disraeli Gears” when he actually meant to say “It’s got them derailleur gears”.
If you’ve never given this album a listen, songs like “Sunshine of Your Love”, “World of Pain” and “Strange Brew”, strong numbers which helped to build the signature Cream sound, will surely blow you away. Just click on the artwork to listen to the full album.
