Week #4: Buena Vista Social Club – Buena Vista Social Club

Latin music has rarely sounded as good as this.
In 1996, American guitarist and producer Ry Cooder travels to Cuba to record this masterpiece along with Cuban bandleader Juan de Marcos González and other traditional Cuban musicians, some of which used to be performers at the legendary Buena Vista Social Club, a membership establishment which reached the peak of its popularity during the 1940s and 1950s.

Featuring groovy guitar melodies, riffs and licks, as well as incredibly feel-good tracks, this effort has been critically acclaimed by many experts over the years, and has earned the status of decade-defining albums, making it a cornerstone of Latin music.

In 2003, Rolling Stone have named Buena Vista Social Club the 260th best album of all time.
