When it came to new music, 2017 was great, but 2018 might be even better. Here are a few artists that might have their big breakthrough this year.
1.kJean Deaux
Despite having appeared on multiple tracks and albums, including collabs with Glass Animals and Mick Jenkins, Jean Deaux only released a few tracks of her own. Nonetheless, it is clear that this artist has what it takes to make it big in 2018. With her Erika Badu vibe on tracks like “Wikipedia”, she already got us grooving like no one else in 2017, and we can’t get enough of it.
2. CCFX
Their 2017 EP was simply stunning. CCFX released amazing tracks in 2017, including “The One to Wait”, a mildly dark gem mixing indie influences with post-punk. Their energetic style, reminder of New Order, Cocteau Twins and the like, will surely take them places in 2018.
3. Insecure Men
No one pulls of the lo-fi synth-y style like Insecure Men. On “Subaru Nights” and the 80’s arcade jam “Teenage Toy”, the duo sounds familiar, only it’s something totally fresh and new, which is what makes them so great. Fan of POND and GUM might fall head over heels in love with Insecure Men in 2018.
4. Pinky Pinky
Being an all-girl rock band isn’t revolutionary, but there’s truly something special about Pinky Pinky’s high energy distorted sound. Having put out the most badass debut EP of 2017, we’re really hoping for a full-length release in 2018. Those girls will certainly one day reach the greatness of bands like Chastity Belt, and even L7 and The Runaways.
5. Clairo
We’re simply in love with Clairo. At Undersound, we’ve been looping “Flaming Hot Cheetos” throughout 2017. And while she might already have broken through last year, opening for Tyler, The Creator and BROCKHAMPTON, or appearing on Jakob Ogawa’s Bedroom Tapes, 2018 will be the year Clairo claims her crown as the queen of lo-fi Indie.
