To inaugurate our new segment, we offer you our top-10 of music… in cinema.
Seriously, what would cinema be without music? Even silent movies were not really silent, as orchestras often accompanied the presentation of movies in theaters. Through the 20th century though, editing technologies evolved in a drastic way to please all film-buffs-music-lovers, who can now fully be delighted.

Unfortunately, mixing cinema and music complicates the task of making decisions for a ranking. What should come first? The music itself? the film itself? or how well both the score and the images blend in together? We chose to pick a mix of all these things.
So, here is a list of composers who greatly contributed to transforming good movies into masterpieces, or created such powerful scores which had a cornerstone impact on the setting and the atmosphere of the film or had such a crucial presence that they became as important as a character per se.

10. Alexandre Desplat

Very hard to ignore this prolific artist, whose filmography is hugely diversified. This French composer is the perfect example of an artist who has successfully brought his talent to contribution in the Hollywood industry. His work was underlined at the last Academy Awards for the score of The Grand Budapest Hotel and includes movies such as The King’s Speech, Zero Dark Thirty and the powerful French movie A Prophet.
